News! 12.2010 | HGA Architects wins the Award of Honor for the American River College Fine Arts Expansion in the 2010 Professional Design Awards program.
American River College is located in Sacramento, California. This two-phase renovation and expansion transformed
American River College's Fine Arts Building into a premier teaching performance center with the latest in theater
design and technology. The second phase nearly doubled the building with the additions of a large instrumental
rehearsal room, a choral rehearsal room that doubles as a recital hall, a black box theater, new recording suite, music practice rooms, scene shop, and an expanded lobby next to the black box theater and box office. The American River College Fine Arts Expansion has won an Award of Honor in the Growth category because of this two-phase renovation and expansion in the 2010 Professional Design Awards program sponsored by the Community College Facility Coalition. The Award of Honor was presented at the CCFC 17th Annual Conference in November 2010 in Sacramento.
AD worked collaboratively with HGA to transform the Fine Arts facility. The new architectural design includes adjustable acoustics elements such as retractable curtains that are also used for light control, and wall shaping close to the musicians to prevent flutter echo and promote a more even sound field in the area where the musicians play. The project is designed to meet LEED certification standards.
