AD Scope: Large Screen Video Displays
Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners, is a retractable roof baseball stadium built in a retro-modern style that incorporates aspects of ballparks of the 1950’s with amenities that are expected in parks of today. It features an asymmetrical field dimension, natural grass, brick facade, ideal sightlines, luxury suites and technology that allows fans to use their Nintendo DS to keep up with game stats, chat, order food, or watch live video of the game.
Acoustic Dimensions was invited to Safeco Field to assess the existing large screen display systems and to recommend a phased approach to their replacement and potential reorientation. With the cost of operation and maintenance of the existing system escalating, the Seattle Mariners took a holistic look at the display systems within Safeco Field with an eye to optimization and upgrades.
Ultimately, the decision was made to take a first step by replacing the field’s incandescent Out of Town Scoreboard with a new energy efficient LED board that will feature scores of MLB games in progress in full-color animation. Acoustic Dimensions worked with the Mariners to develop Request For Proposal documentation, conduct facility tours, answer bidder questions, develop contractual documentation, observe work in progress and commission the completed systems.
