The Chancellor’s Court Concert Hall is part of a complete new home for the Department of Music for the University of Birmingham. The project includes rehearsal rooms, studios for electro-acoustic music and a Centre for Early Music Performance and Research. Designed to attract and nurture talented musicians, the new hall will provide a home for performances ranging in scale from individual student recitals to rehearsals with a chorus of 250 and an orchestra of 80. It will accommodate the acoustic extremes of organ music and BEAST (Birmingham ElectroAcoustic Sound Theatre) -- which is at the forefront of research into musical composition for large-scale multichannel electroacoustic systems, and everything in between.
Construction of the new facility will complete the vision of the Aston Webb semi-circle conceived by the school’s frst Chancellor, Joseph Chamberlain. The new building will consist of a pavilion entrance foyer, a domed rehearsal room, music studios and the concert hall.
