Shadow Mountain Community located just outside San Diego, California is well known for exceptional preaching and outstanding music. When renovation was planned for the church’s audio, video and lighting systems it was clear that certain goals had to be met. In the style of many traditional Baptist churches, Shadow Mountain combines a number of activities during each worship service; including preaching, a large choir and orchestra, praise and worship soloists as well as congregational participation. With all that in mind it was necessary that the technical systems account for balance between a high level of speech intelligibility and strong reinforcement of the music program.
To accomplish this, the sound system was designed to provide both high intelligibility and wide imaging using an L/C/R cross-matrix configuration. In addition to the primary source speaker clusters, additional delay speakers were added in the balcony area to provide complete sound coverage to all seating areas. As with most large worship spaces, a large format video projection system is required to provide image magnification (IMAG) of activities that take place on the platform. This system uses large front-projection screens in addition to the complete broadcast video production system of cameras, switching and recording equipment. The extensive theatrical lighting system provides lighting support for worship services, seasonal theatrical productions and the broadcast TV ministry.
Additional facilities design work for Shadow Mountain has included a sound system design for the chapel; sound system, acoustical analysis and design for the gymnasium; and audio, video and lighting design for the high school theater.
