Custer Road UMC in Plano, Texas places a strong emphasis on their traditional music ministry. They added a large Schantz pipe organ to their existing worship facility and needed recommendations on cost-effective measures to significantly improve the room’s support of choral and orchestral music, in addition to changes required for installation of the organ.
AD’s acoustics study addressed their desire to improve natural acoustics, making the room more responsive and reverberant. The design included an upgrade to the existing sound reinforcement system to maintain a very high level of speech intelligibility and enhance congregational singing for those in attendence, as well as, those who received videotaped copies of the service.
The facility overhaul involved removing the existing acoustical treatments as well as the carpeting in an effort to create a large, much more ‘live’ environment for the organ and congregational singing.
