Fellowship of The Woodlands, located just north of Houston, Texas, provides an upbeat contemporary music style combined with “down to earth” teaching in a non-threatening environment. It is this focus that attracts and keeps members attending.
The worship style is strongly presentational in nature; however, the church desired to maintain a sense of unity between the congregation, pastor and praise team—both visually and acoustically.
The architects’ use of a balcony in the design helped to minimize the overall footprint of the space. The use of the balcony also acted as an effective visual scaling device, giving the room a more intimate feel. Acoustics in the room are largely determined by the sound systems, since most of the audible programming is presented through it. Sound isolation and noise and vibration control were an integral part of the design to make sure that during worshipful moments, the room is quiet.
The sound system is a left/center/right configuration and is designed to make the preaching sound warm and intimate and to support quality music performance.
The video screens are used for sermon support, image-magnification video (IMAG) and worship support lyrics. Three cameras are located in the room for video production capability.
The theatrical lighting systems for the sanctuary provide lighting for weekend and midweek services as well as special productions. The system consists of a lighting console, dimmer racks, lighting instruments and distribution system. The architectural lighting system is controlled through the theatrical lighting console, remote control stations as required and dimmed using the theatrical lighting dimmers.
