As the largest Southern Baptist church in the nation, and still growing at 17,000 people, Prestonwood needs large facilities to care for all of its members. To meet this need, the church developed the West Wing Expansion. This facility includes a chapel, a prayer tower, student ministry center, food court/commons area, library/bookstore and a "Main Street."
The chapel's main use is for weddings and funerals, so it is designed to look very traditional. Hidden behind the traditionalism is a high tech audio/video system which allows for the room to also be used as a teaching facility.
The proximity of the campus to Addison airport precluded a steeple. The internally lit prayer tower will serve that function and house a conference room, fireside room and areas to pray. These rooms are equipped with basic a/v cabling to provide interconnectivity with other parts of the facility.
The student ministry center contains classrooms for the high school youth and a large meeting area that has staging and audio/video to support their youth band. This larger area has the capability of being converted into a video studio in the future.
The food court/commons area is designed as a place for people to gather and relax, but it also has the ability to be converted into a large concert area. The cabling is in place for rigging and a/v to be temporarily moved into the space.
The library/bookstore is what you would expect in any library/bookstore, but, like the rest of the West Wing Expansion space, it also has MATV, background music and its cabling connects it to the rest of the Prestonwood campus.
"Main Street" is the name of the hallway that connects the existing Prestonwood campus to the West Wing Expansion. It includes ticket booths and information centers.
