South Hills Bible Chapel purchased 20-acres of land in 1993, and in 2006, a new 54,000 square foot worship center was added to the existing campus. The 1,400-seat, fan-shaped room is expandable to 2,000 seats with upholstered theatre style seats, dual large projection screens on either side of the platform. The Sanctuary serves as the primary meeting space for Sunday morning services but is also used for contemporary concerts and large scale dramas.
AD provided design services for acoustics, room shaping, platform design, backstage planning, audio, video projection, theatrical and architectural lighting and stage systems for the main sanctuary. AD also assisted with developing a layout for the production and rehearsal spaces that, although largely unfinished, allow the Church consider future expansion as the production needs grow. These spaces are immediately below the Sanctuary, so sound isolation between spaces was paramount. The church’s desire to have an expandable worship center - also sizeable challenge acoustically – was taken into consideration during the planning and layout of the technical systems.
