St. Michael the Archangel worked with The Beck Group to create a new 900-seat sanctuary and small 70-seat chapel on their existing campus. The traditional cruciform-shaped sanctuary provided a unique space for acoustics and audio design for their worship services.
AD faced many challenges when starting work on this project with much of the architectural work already completed and limited budgets. The church’s music styles required higher reverberance than desirable for spoken word. Minimal acoustic treatments were used in the front of the room while keeping the area around the pipe organ free of treatment. Vocal intelligibilty issues were remedied with the installation of digitally-steered speakers and AD was also able to support the design of a quiet, easy-to-operate HVAC system that didn’t interfere with the services being held in the sanctuary and chapel.
